Sometimes my clients make my job seem effortless.
When the love is so transparent between a couple, when a pristine outdoor location is chosen and when so much kindness and thought is put into every detail, how can I not come away with thousands of incredible images?

I had a hunch it was going to be an unforgettable day from the moment the location was mentioned. After meeting with E+M for the first time my suspicion was confirmed – it was going to be unforgettable. The date on it’s own had such significance: what other couples can say they married on the same day that both their parents did? Not only that, but with five of their guests also celebrating birthdays, it was sure to be a festive wedding.

Being that Michael’s mother is a professional photographer, whose work I so greatly admire, I was honoured to be the one chosen to capture the day. From the wild flower bouquets to the intricate design of the seating chart and the thoughtfully picked out and arranged memory photographs, it seemed I could never get my fill of photos. And this is yet to even mention Emily’s gorgeous gown (that I cannot stop gushing about), and the beautiful pastel shades she chose for her girls.

E+M have an easy way about them. They are recognizably so comfortable in each others’ presence and have a relaxed approach to things, which translated well into their summer afternoon wedding in the woods. Thoughtfully provided shuttles brought guests out to the Forest, located a short distance from the town of Huntsville. With transportation taken care of, guests were able to enjoy the contents of the beer filled canoes and participate in summer lawn games before sitting for dinner (and whilst we made a few photos!).

Sometimes all you need is some nice light…and the couple seems to almost take care of the rest.

Sharing a meal together in a tent just feet from the water’s edge was a special part of the celebration as well, and the speeches that continued throughout brought much laughter (and a few tears). The birthday guests were even welcomed up for a celebratory shot! And Emily quickly forgave Michael when he fed himself a piece of the cake instead of her…the captured look of “I’m not surprised…Only you.”, on Emily’s face is pretty much priceless.

I always love it when the couple decides to do their first dance following the parent dances – it just makes sense to me. This way they are on the dance floor at the end of the song – when everyone else wants to join them for the first dance party song of the night. So it went, with E+M. The dancing had begun, but with the sun quickly falling behind the tress on shore, I encouraged E+M to the lake for a few sunset photos – the magic hour. And what a magical ending it was.

I am always honoured to be chosen to play such an important role at such a milestone, and so to Emily + Michael, I thank you for your implicit trust. I am so grateful I got to capture your BIG day! Although it meant all the more when my work was validated by your praise:

“Dear Kelly,
Thank you so much for photographing our wedding!  You could not have been more wonderful (before-hand and on the actual day)!

We had total confidence from the very beginning and felt super comfortable and relaxed with you!

Our photos are way more amazing than we ever could have imagined.  Thank you!

It was really awesome to make albums for our parents at Christmas and not be able to choose which images to use (because we love them all!).

Thank you for being so easy-going, friendly, flexible, fun and creative.  It was truly a pleasure to have you, and we are so thankful for the memories you have given us that we will cherish forever.”

Love, Emily + Michael

Yup. I have the best job ever.
